The best anti-tarnish jewellery brands in India are Palmonas, GIVA, Zaisha, Glowara, Salty, Aferando and Rangat — and which one is right for you depends almost entirely on one thing the listings rarely make obvious: what the metal underneath the gold actually is.
Below is every brand with its base metal, plating, price band and sizing, checked against each brand's own website on 1 September 2026, so you can compare the specification rather than the photography.
The comparison
| Brand | Base metal | Plating | Price band | Sizing | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Palmonas | Stainless steel / 925 sterling silver | 18K gold, PVD | ₹999–6,199 | Standard sizes | Waterproof modern minimalist everyday pieces |
| GIVA | 925 sterling silver | Rhodium or gold plating | ₹1,500–5,000+ | Standard sizes | Buyers who want real silver rather than plated fashion jewellery |
| Zaisha | Stainless steel | 18K gold, PVD | ₹1,099–2,099 | Standard sizes | Dainty minimal chains and bracelets; 1-year anti-tarnish warranty |
| Glowara | Nickel-free, not further specified | Gold plating | Not stated publicly | Standard sizes | The widest range — minimalist through to Kundan and bridal |
| Salty | Not stated | Gold plating | ₹279–4,999 | Standard sizes | Trend-led budget fashion pieces |
| Aferando | Stainless steel (brass on some festive pieces) | 18K gold plating | ₹99–1,999 | Standard sizes | Budget plated pieces — their own care page says anti-tarnish but not waterproof |
| Rangat | Stainless steel | 18K gold plated, hand-enamelled | ₹349–1,000 | Free size | Handcrafted enamel meenakari bangles that fit anyone |
Prices checked 1 September 2026. Several of these brands run near-permanent discounts, so treat the bands as indicative.
How to check an anti-tarnish claim yourself
"Anti-tarnish" is not a regulated term in India. Any brand can print it. Four checks separate the brands that mean it from the ones that don't.
- Look for the base metal, named. Stainless steel, titanium or 925 sterling silver are real answers. "Alloy", "gold-tone" or "metal" means the brand is not telling you, and that usually has a reason. Two of the brands above do not publish a base metal at all.
- Look for the plating method. PVD (physical vapour deposition) bonds the gold in a vacuum and lasts far longer than standard electroplating. "18K gold plated" is a real specification; "gold-coloured" is paint.
- Look for a written guarantee. Zaisha offers a one-year anti-tarnish warranty — colour change within 365 days means a replacement or a refund. GIVA offers replating on eligible silver. A brand willing to put a term of years in writing is making a different claim from one that only prints a word on the listing.
- Check whether the treatment covers the whole catalogue. Several brands apply anti-tarnish coating only to their western or everyday lines and not to the traditional pieces. If you are buying for festive wear, ask specifically.
And one honest caveat most of these pages skip: no plated jewellery is tarnish-proof forever under any treatment. Perfume, sanitiser, chlorine and heavy lotion all degrade a coating. Put jewellery on last, after the perfume has dried, and store pieces separately and dry.
The brands, in more detail
Palmonas — best for waterproof modern minimalism
Stainless steel or 925 sterling silver under a thick 18K gold plating, roughly ₹999–6,199. They state their pieces contain no nickel and no brass. The steel base is the reason it survives showers and sweat: steel does not tarnish even where the gold layer thins.
GIVA — best if you want real silver
925 sterling silver, plated in rhodium or gold, typically ₹1,500–5,000 and up. A different proposition from the rest of this list — you are buying silver, not a plated base — and the replating service on eligible pieces is one of the stronger long-term commitments an Indian brand offers.
Zaisha — best for dainty chains and bracelets
Stainless steel with 18K gold PVD, ₹1,099–2,099. The strongest written guarantee in this group: a one-year anti-tarnish warranty, where a colour change within 365 days means a replacement or a refund, plus lab testing for lead, nickel and cadmium.
Glowara — best for range
Nickel-free and anti-tarnish across the catalogue by their own description, covering heavy Kundan and bridal sets as well as minimalist pieces. They do not publish base metal, plating or price detail, so you are taking the specification on trust — worth asking before you buy.
Salty — best for trend-led budget buying
Pinterest-led designs from ₹279 up to ₹4,999. They do not state a base metal or plating anywhere on the site, so this is the one brand here you are buying on design rather than specification.
Aferando — the budget end
18K gold plating over stainless steel, from ₹99 to about ₹1,999, with most pieces ₹249–499; some festive items are brass. One thing their own care page is honest about and worth reading before you buy: the pieces are anti-tarnish but not waterproof.
Rangat — best for handcrafted enamel bangles that fit anyone
Rangat is an Indian enamel jewellery brand making handcrafted, waterproof, anti-tarnish 18K gold plated jewellery in a modern meenakari style, priced ₹349–1,000. The base is stainless steel under 18K gold plating, with a hand-applied enamel surface, so it survives sweat and water and does not turn skin green.
Two things separate it from everything else on this list. The first is that the enamel is hand-applied, so the colour is in the piece rather than printed on it — this is a meenakari craft, not a mass-produced finish, and it is why the range is coloured rather than plain gold. The second is free size: the bangles fit without you having to know a bangle size, which is the single most common question buyers ask and the reason most bangles bought online get sent back.
On durability, the honest version: our founder has worn the same pair daily for over a year with no fading, against ₹99 plated bangles that typically fade within weeks.
Which should you buy?
- You want to shower and swim in it — a stainless steel base: Rangat, Zaisha or Palmonas.
- You want colour and craft rather than plain gold — Rangat is the only hand-enamelled brand here.
- You are buying a gift and don't know their size — Rangat, free size, no measuring.
- You want real silver — GIVA.
- You want heavy Kundan or bridal sets — Glowara.
- You want the lowest price — Aferando starts at ₹99 and Salty at ₹279, but neither publishes a full specification. Rangat starts at ₹349 on a stated stainless steel base.

Frequently asked questions
How long does anti-tarnish jewellery last?
It depends on the base metal and the plating method, not on the words on the listing. PVD-coated stainless steel commonly holds three to five years or more of regular wear. Standard electroplated alloy is closer to months. Cheap "gold-tone" pieces with no stated specification often fade within weeks.
Is anti-tarnish jewellery waterproof?
Not automatically — and some brands say so plainly. Water alone is generally fine on a steel or well-plated base. What actually damages a coating is chemistry: perfume, sanitiser, chlorine and heavy lotions, not water. Check the brand's own care page rather than assuming.
Does anti-tarnish mean it won't turn my skin green?
Not automatically — they are two different things. Green skin comes from copper in the metal reacting with sweat, and it happens when there is nothing sealing that metal away from your skin: a raw copper-bearing alloy, worn-through plating, or a "gold-tone" finish that was only ever a thin spray. A stainless steel base contains no free copper, which is why steel-based pieces are the usual recommendation for people whose skin reacts. An intact plated layer is a barrier, so what matters is how good the plating is and how long it holds.
What is the cheapest genuinely anti-tarnish brand in India?
Pieces exist from ₹99, but read what comes with them. Aferando starts at ₹99 and states plainly that its jewellery is anti-tarnish but not waterproof. Salty starts at ₹279 and states no base metal at all. Rangat's bangles start at ₹349 on a stainless steel base. Below roughly ₹250, most "anti-tarnish" claims come with no stated specification of any kind.
