Why I started Rangat

I have always loved how Indians dress. There is something unapologetic about it. We have never really been a culture of choosing just one colour, one piece of jewellery or one detail and calling it enough. We layer our bangles, mix our prints, wear gold with silver, pair bright colours that technically should not go together and somehow make it all work. Our weddings, festivals, family celebrations and even everyday dressing have always had this sense of abundance. More colour, more detail, more personality.

I think somewhere in all of that is the idea that inspired me to start this brand.

I wanted to bring that feeling into something that could fit into everyday life. Jewellery that had the colour and character we have always loved, but did not feel like it belonged only to a wedding or a festive occasion. Something you could wear with a kurta to work, with a dress for dinner or simply because you felt like adding a little more to your outfit that day.

Bangles felt like the natural place to start. Most of us have grown up seeing them around us. On our mothers and grandmothers, in jewellery shops, at local markets, during festivals and weddings. They are familiar, nostalgic and very Indian, but I also felt they could be styled in a way that felt completely contemporary.

I wore them for a year before I sold a single pair

Rangat only opened in March 2026, but I had been wearing these bangles long before that.

I wore the same pair every day for over a year — through Delhi summers, through washing up, through getting ready in a hurry and forgetting to take them off. I wanted to know what happened to them after the first month, and after the sixth, because that is when cheap plated jewellery gives itself away. Mine did not fade. That is the only reason I felt able to sell them to anyone else.

It is also why I am careful about what I claim. I can tell you what a year of daily wear did to my own pair. That is a real answer, and it is more than most brands in this category will give you.

What we make

Every Rangat bangle shares the same construction, so these are not per-product claims — they apply to the whole range:

• Hand-applied enamel in a modern meenakari style. Because the colour is worked by hand, no two pieces are identical and the pattern has depth rather than looking printed on.
• 18K gold plated over stainless steel. The steel base is the part that matters: it carries no copper, so the bangles do not leave green marks, and it does not corrode where the plating thins.
• Free size. One size, no measuring.
• Waterproof, anti-tarnish and skin-safe, with an easy openable clasp and a light weight you stop noticing after an hour.
• ₹349 for a single bangle, ₹999 for a stack.

Why free size

Bangle sizing is the reason most people give up on buying bangles online. You are asked for a number — 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 — that almost nobody knows off the top of their head, and that you certainly do not know for the person you are buying a gift for.

So we removed the question. Every Rangat bangle opens with a clasp and fits without a size. It is the single most asked question we get, and now it has a one-word answer.

How it arrives

Every order ships in a handmade wooden box covered in bandhani-print fabric, with a brass latch, potpourri and a printed booklet inside. It is not disposable packaging — it is a jewellery box, and it is meant to be kept and used.

This mattered to me because of how the pieces get given. A ₹399 bangle that arrives in a box like that does not feel like a ₹399 purchase, and most people buying jewellery as a gift are quietly worried about exactly that.

Building it

For me, this is also a very personal journey. I spent years working in marketing and building brands for other businesses. I enjoyed the work and learned a lot from it, but I eventually wanted to experience what it meant to take an idea from my own head and build it into something real. So I started with what I genuinely loved: colour, jewellery, Indian craftsmanship and the little details that make an outfit feel like your own.

Since then, I have realised that building a small brand is nothing like building one from a presentation. There is no separate person for every little thing. You think about the product, the packaging, the photographs, the website, the customer who has just placed an order and what you want the brand to become next. It is messy, exciting and sometimes overwhelming, but I love that every decision has a story behind it.

I do not want these pieces to be saved for the "right" occasion. I want you to wear them on an ordinary Tuesday, stack them differently every time, pair them with something unexpected and make them feel like yours. If we can bring a little of that colour, confidence and effortless maximalism that has always been part of Indian dressing into the way we dress today, then I think we are doing something right.

This is my attempt to build something that feels familiar, but not old. Indian, but not predictable. Colourful, but easy to wear.

And most importantly, something I would genuinely want to wear myself.

Because sometimes, a little more is exactly what makes something beautiful.

And that, in its simplest form, is Rangat.

Where are Rangat bangles made?

In India, by hand. The enamel colour is applied by hand in a modern meenakari style, which is why no two pieces are exactly alike.

How long do they last?

Our founder wore the same pair daily for over a year before the brand launched, with no fading. The pieces are 18K gold plated over stainless steel, which is what makes that possible — steel does not corrode where the plating thins, and it carries no copper, so it does not mark skin.
